The 2027 Threatscape

Users are tired of typing passwords. IT is swamped with reset tickets. Security is chasing yet another credential incident. Now, as frontier AI capabilities raise the stakes for defenders and organizations introduce AI agents that need secure access to business systems, growing privilege sprawl creates even more opportunities for attackers.

Most agree passwordless is the future, but today’s reality is still passwords. The real challenge isn’t choosing between passwordless and password management. It’s securing credentials now, controlling excessive privileges, and applying layered security controls while you modernize toward passwordless over time.

Combined, passwordless and password management provide a pragmatic, hybrid approach that strengthens credential security, improves user experience, and supports long-term identity modernization in an evolving threat landscape.

Key Takeaways:
• Understand the benefits of passwordless: Improve security and user experience while reducing reliance on passwords.
• Connect password management and passwordless: Secure credentials today while building toward a passwordless future.
• Extend identity security beyond authentication: Reduce privilege sprawl and address emerging risks from AI threats and agents.
